What first rights are

Edited

Overview

First rights mean you get the first chance to renew a sponsorship next year before it goes back on sale to the general public. It is the chamber's way of rewarding loyal sponsors and protecting the visibility you have built.

Before you start

  • You earn first rights by sponsoring an event that includes them as a benefit. The chamber sets which sponsorships qualify.

  • First rights have a window — usually a few weeks. After it closes, the sponsorship opens up to everyone.

Step-by-step

  1. You'll get an email when your first-rights window opens.

  2. Sign in and open My First Rights.

  3. Review the sponsorships you can renew, the price, and how many days are left.

  4. Click Add to cart on the items you want to keep.

  5. Check out as you normally would. Your renewal is locked in.

  6. Anything you don't claim returns to the public storefront when the window closes.

Tips & best practices

  • Don't wait until the final day. If your card declines, you may run out of time.

  • Renewing a package keeps the bundle pricing — usually a better deal than rebuying piece by piece.

  • If you're not sure whether to renew, talk to the chamber. They can sometimes flex the deadline.

FAQ

Can I transfer my first rights to a colleague?
Yes — add them as a representative on the business and they can claim on your behalf.

What if I don't want any of them?
That's fine. They expire automatically. See the not-renewing article for what happens.

Do first rights cost extra?
No. They are a benefit included with your original sponsorship.
