What happens when your card is declined

Edited

Overview

Sometimes a card gets declined at checkout. When that happens the order does not get created, no money is taken, and the items remain in your cart so you can try again. Stripe shows a short reason from your bank.

Before you start

  • The decline reason on screen is the most useful clue — read it before retrying.

  • Have a backup card if your first one is consistently rejected.

Step-by-step

  1. If a decline appears, note the reason — common ones include "insufficient funds," "3D Secure failed," or "card declined by issuer."

  2. Go back to the cart. Items are still there.

  3. Try a different card or address fields.

  4. If your bank uses 3D Secure, expect a push notification or SMS to approve.

  5. If declines keep happening, call your bank's fraud line — large or international charges sometimes get auto-blocked.

Tips & best practices

  • Avoid retrying the same card more than 2 or 3 times. Repeated failures look like fraud and lock the card harder.

  • If your card is corporate and only allows certain merchant categories, confirm trychamberly.com is allowed.

  • For large purchases, give your bank a heads-up first.

FAQ

Did I just get charged twice?
No. Declines do not capture funds. You may see a short-lived authorization that drops within a few days.

Can I switch to reservation if my card keeps failing?
Only if the chamber accepts reservation. Ask the chamber.

Why does the error say "3DS required"?
Your bank wants extra verification. Approve the prompt on your phone, then retry.
