Changing a member's role

Edited

Overview

You can change a member's role at any time — promoting a chamber staff member to org_manager, downgrading a former staff member to sponsor, or shifting business representatives between admin and viewer access. Role changes take effect on the member's next page load.

Before you start

  • Confirm the new role you want to assign.

  • Make sure you have at least one other org_manager before downgrading the only one.

  • Open Sales > Members and find the member.

Step-by-step

  1. Click the member row to open their profile.

  2. Locate the Role dropdown.

  3. Pick the new role from the list.

  4. Click Save. The change takes effect immediately.

  5. Notify the member of the change so they know about expanded or reduced permissions.

Tips & best practices

  • Audit org_manager assignments quarterly to keep top-tier access tight.

  • Use chamber_staff for most internal team members; reserve org_manager for chamber leadership.

  • Document role changes in the member notes for accountability.

  • Avoid dropping the only org_manager — Chamberly will warn you, but planning prevents lockout.

FAQ

Can I change a sponsor to chamber staff?
Yes, if appropriate. The change opens admin access and should be handled deliberately.

Will the member's existing orders or sponsorships be affected?
No. Role changes affect access only.
