Usage limits and per-user limits

Edited

Overview

Usage limits cap how many times a coupon can be redeemed. The total usage limit applies to all sponsors collectively, while the per-user usage limit caps redemptions per individual sponsor. Together they prevent abuse and protect your budget.

Before you start

  • Decide the maximum total redemptions you can afford.

  • Decide if individual sponsors should be able to redeem more than once.

  • Open the coupon under Marketing > Coupons.

Step-by-step

  1. Scroll to the Restrictions section of the coupon editor.

  2. Set Total usage limit to the maximum number of redemptions overall.

  3. Set Per-user usage limit to 1 if each sponsor can only use it once.

  4. Leave either field blank for unlimited (not recommended for high-value discounts).

  5. Save the coupon. Limits enforce immediately.

  6. Monitor redemption count under the coupon's usage tab.

Tips & best practices

  • Pair total limits with expiry dates for time-bounded campaigns.

  • Set per-user limit to 1 unless you have a deliberate reason to allow repeats.

  • Add a small buffer to your total limit (e.g., 110 instead of 100) to account for cart errors.

  • Watch the usage tab to see how quickly the coupon is being claimed.

FAQ

What happens when the limit is reached?
Checkout shows "coupon expired or maxed out" and the sponsor cannot apply it.

Can I increase the limit later?
