Deleting a sponsorship
Overview
Deleting a sponsorship removes it from the parent event, the public page, and the Sponsorships list. Chamberly blocks deletion if the sponsorship has active orders. This article explains the safe path and when to delete vs. when to just hide.
Before you start
You need an org_manager role to delete sponsorships
Confirm the sponsorship has no active orders (Sales > Orders, filter by sponsorship)
Consider setting availability to
not_yet_availableinstead — it hides the sponsorship without losing data
Step-by-step
Open the sponsorship from the parent event
Click Edit sponsorship
Scroll to the bottom and click Delete sponsorship
Read the confirmation dialog — it lists what will be removed
Type the sponsorship name to confirm
Click Delete permanently
What gets deleted
The sponsorship record
All benefits
The featured image
First-rights holder assignments for this sponsorship
What is preserved
Cancelled or refunded orders remain — they reference the deleted sponsorship by name
Active orders block deletion — cancel or refund them first
Sponsor accounts are untouched
Tips & best practices
Almost always prefer hiding (set availability to
not_yet_available) over deletingDelete only when the sponsorship was created by mistake or will never be used again
Take a screenshot of the configuration in case you want to recreate it later
FAQ
Can I undo a delete?
No. Deletes are permanent. If unsure, hide instead.
What if the sponsorship has cancelled orders only?
You can delete it. Only active and paid orders block deletion.
What if I just want to take it off the public page?
Set availability to not_yet_available instead of deleting.
