Cloning an event
Overview
Cloning an event copies all of its details — including sponsorships, prices, benefits, and styling — into a new draft event. It is the fastest way to set up a recurring event (next year's gala, next quarter's mixer) without rebuilding from scratch.
Before you start
You need an org_manager or chamber_staff role
Identify the source event you want to clone
Decide on the new event's date and any pricing changes you want to make
Step-by-step
Open Sidebar > Events
Find the source event in the list
Click the three-dot menu on its row and choose Clone event
In the dialog, enter the New event name and New start date
Decide whether to include Sponsorships, Benefits, and Featured image (default: yes for all)
Click Clone
The new event opens as a draft with status

What gets copied vs. not
Copied: name (with -Copy suffix), descriptions, image, venue, sponsorships, benefits, prices, inventory, display order, category
Not copied: orders, sponsor list, first-rights holders, performance data, go-live date
Tips & best practices
Always rename and re-date the event right after cloning — the default name has -Copy in it
Review prices before publishing — sponsorship costs often go up year over year
Use cloning for templated events: same format, different date
If you want to also bring forward last year's first-rights holders, use Bulk add first rights after cloning
FAQ
Does cloning copy first-rights holders?
No. First rights are tied to a specific event. Add them to the cloned event manually or via bulk import.
Can I clone an archived event?
Yes. Cloning works on draft, active, and archived events.
Can I clone just one sponsorship instead of the whole event?
Yes — see the Cloning a sponsorship article.
