Choosing online, reservation, or both for payment mode
Overview
Payment mode is a chamber-wide setting that controls how sponsors pay for sponsorships. You can choose online (Stripe Checkout), reservation (claim without payment), or both (sponsor picks at checkout). Pick the mode that matches how your chamber actually invoices today.
The three modes
Online — Sponsors pay with a card at checkout via Stripe. You receive funds in your Stripe account.
Reservation — Sponsors claim a sponsorship without paying. You invoice them outside Chamberly. No Stripe required.
Both — Sponsors choose to pay now or claim and pay later at checkout.
Before you start
You need an org_manager role to change payment mode
Online and Both modes require a connected Stripe account
Switching modes does not affect existing orders
Step-by-step
Open Settings > Payment from the sidebar
Under Payment mode, choose Online, Reservation, or Both
If you pick Online or Both, click Connect Stripe and complete the Stripe onboarding flow
Click Save
Tips & best practices
Most new chambers start in Reservation mode while they finalize their Stripe account, then switch to Both
Choose Both if some sponsors prefer purchase orders and others want to pay by card
Reservation mode is great for high-trust environments where you already have invoicing workflows
If you switch from Both to Reservation, no new card payments will be accepted but existing claims keep their status
FAQ
Can I use different modes for different events?
No — payment mode is chamber-wide. All events follow the same rule.
What happens to a reservation order?
The sponsorship is locked to that sponsor. You invoice them outside Chamberly and mark the order paid manually from the Orders page.
Do I lose money in Both mode if a sponsor picks reservation?
Not directly — but you take on the work of invoicing and chasing payment yourself. Many chambers steer sponsors toward online to reduce that overhead.
